INDUSTRI – THURSDAY 12TH JUNE 2008
REVIEW FOR SEENQUEEN
Ever since the launch of this Thursday night soiree at Barcode Vauxhall back in February, we have seen the night slowly develop into an unique weekly event which, for us, has become a must visit occasion, so much so that we have rearranged our work and social calendar, in order to make the trip south of the river.
So, it was yet another pre weekend warm up that we found ourselves drawn to the temptations of Industri, with the fabulous hostess Minty overseeing proceedings and ensuring that everybody gracing the doors of Barcode felt so welcome and extra special.
On arrival we found Minty holding court on the outside terrace and immediately indulged in the customary shots of Tequila and Sambuca to get the evening off with a kick and on moving inside found Brent Nicholls in charge behind the decks warming up the crowd with is unique mix of tribal, funky and electronica infused beats for which we, along with the Industri crowd, have become firm favourites of his style. Regular goers to this fun filled experience, which has more of the feel of an intimate house party rather than a night out on the tiles, will be used to Brent going back-to-back with our other scene favourite D.J. Paul Heron, but with Paul away in the sunny climbs of Australia, it was down to Brent to keep us entertained. That he certainly did and failed to disappoint, playing numerous crowd pleasing tracks alongside brand new tunes, one in particular reminiscent of a good old American “ho-down”, encapsulating the party vibe that Industri has become famous for.
By now, we were well and truly into our stride and with the arrival of resident go-go podium dancer, Dilmar, the scene was set for yet another amazing Industri get together. Minty was being the true hostess, floating around the bar chatting with the mix of party boys & girls, scene faces, off duty D.J’s and other folk up for a good time. Dilmar then ascended the podium in front of the DJ booth and began to entertain the audience. With us fiercely resisting the temptation to assume our role as fellow go-go dancer, this prompted a member of the crowd to leap onto the other podium and join him in the dancing display, to the sounds pumping out across the bar and to the appreciative woops and cheers of the by now captive audience, sending the venue and all in it to stratospheric levels.
And this set the tone for the rest of the evening, as face after face wafted in to savour the truly unique atmosphere that has become Industri. To top off the evening, we were delighted by the emergence of a photo album, chronicling the many weeks that Industri has been running, capturing so many of the familiar and regular faces that have come to be part of what can only be described as an Industri family, thus reflecting a true celebration of this very special night.
Having thrown ourselves yet again into the whole experience, the 1a.m. finish soon loomed and we said our goodbyes and made our way home to reflect on yet another successful Thursday outing to Barcode and Industri.
This weekly venture has a superb recipe of great music, the best D.J. combo you could ask for, a brilliant hostess in the form of Minty, entertainment courtesy of Dilmar coupled with the impromptu appearances by others on the podiums, not to mention what has to be the friendliest and most relaxed crowds we have come across in years. In our view, Industri remains unmissable on Thursdays and we thoroughly recommend a visit if you haven’t already. Keep up the good work, Minty, Brent & Paul and in doing so it will ensure our return week after week. (DISCO MATT)
